Mundiapolis management has been in a race against time to complete this project, Casablanca's first private university campus. The first students will begin classes on September 28.
This was confirmed to us by Abderrahmane Lahlou, president and founder of this university.
Construction of the buildings, begun last January, is almost complete, and inspections are scheduled for September 24 and 25. According to architect Said Lahlou, "To meet the deadlines set by the client, three general contractors and no fewer than 18 other trades were working since last February to deliver the campus on time." He added: "The project, which cost nearly 70 million dirhams, took 8 months to complete and can accommodate 1,600 students enrolled in various disciplines, including computer engineering, management, and an English-language bachelor's degree, starting September 28, 2009."
To showcase this project, the group organized open days for the public on September 7 and 8. Located 500 meters from Nouasser Airport, the university campus has modern and efficient educational, social, and sports facilities, and is located within a technology park housing cutting-edge industrial sectors. "The expertise and teaching professionalism of Moroccan, European, and North American professors will distinguish this institution, which is firmly focused on business and internationally connected," explains the president.
Through student exchange programs, students can spend semesters studying at partner universities or schools and obtain an internationally recognized degree. Partnerships will also allow for the reception of exchange students and international professors.
For Abderrahmane Lahlou, Mundiapolis is the culmination of several years of reflection and teamwork, providing a well-considered response to the expectations of Emergence 1 and 2 programs in the training sector.
To meet the needs expressed by these sectors, the new campus offers a diverse range of more than 20 dual-degree programs in partnership with prestigious universities in France, Canada, England, and Switzerland, ranging from DUT to doctorate (LMD), alongside high-performing programs, including business schools and engineering schools. Among all these institutions, Mundiapolis has chosen the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis as a key partner, with a contract signed covering teaching, exchange of professors and students, and scientific research.
The result of the work of national investors from industry and services, Mundiapolis University covers 3 hectares and includes a teaching area, an administrative and pedagogical area, and a high-level sports facility area. Tuition fees range from 24,000 to 29,000 DH per semester. Shuttle bus transportation, as well as food and accommodation on campus, are also competitively priced because they are subsidized by the institution.
Development
Strategically, the project unfolds in three phases:
Phase 1
This phase will reach an enrollment of 1,900 students by 2012. This phase will complete the various disciplines not opened during the first academic year and will establish good governance among the three governing bodies: the Board of Directors, the Governing Council, and the Advisory Committee.
Phase 2
Beginning in 2012 with the construction of 3 extension buildings, this phase will reach an enrollment of 3,500 students by 2015-2016. This phase will see the graduation of the first complete Mundiapolis classes, including the first doctoral candidates, who will have joined doctoral programs in 2010. Research and incubation will have proven successful, and Mundiapolis will compete with public universities in this area.
Phase 3
This phase will begin in 2016 and end in 2019, ten years after the university's creation. By then, most degrees should be autonomous, recognized, and valued as Mundiapolis degrees without dual degrees. Simple partnership support from international universities will be maintained. Prestigious executive degrees may still be offered as dual degrees.
This phase will see the launch of non-professional degrees sponsored by prestigious organizations, and Mundiapolis will fully occupy its status as a cultural beacon in the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa.
