Heart palpitations, sweating, blushing, clammy hands... The prospect of a job interview panicking you? Here are 3 essential techniques to avoid being overwhelmed by stress.

1. Visualize the interview and imagine yourself succeeding
Practice creative visualization. Imagine yourself passing the interview and succeeding, and visualize all the sensations that result from this goal: what do I see (imagine yourself relaxed in front of your interviewer), what do I hear (bravo, perfect...), what do I feel (relaxation, joy)... This mental technique sends positive messages to our subconscious, it prepares and conditions you to succeed, convinces you that you will succeed. Practice it several times a day and especially in the evening before falling asleep. Goals are achieved as if by magic!
2. Promote alternative thoughts
Another source of stress: negative thoughts. For example: "I'm sure I'm going to have memory lapses during the interview", "I'm going to lose my composure", "I doubt I'll get this job"... We must dissect the reasons for these reflections: what makes me say that? Has this already happened to me? When? Where?... We often realize that these are erroneous or fantasized fears. It is then a question of replacing them with alternative thoughts that provide real relief. If we take the example of memory lapses, we can say: "I accept having them. It's not a catastrophe, it's manageable". This alternative thought makes it possible to modify your emotional state and therefore to reduce your stress.
3. Practice diaphragmatic breathing
This is a fairly well-known technique that allows you to regulate your emotions, to calm your stress: I inhale while inflating my belly, I hold my breath for a few seconds, then I exhale while retracting my belly. Diaphragmatic breathing is a natural, internal resource, available to us at all times and... free! You can practice it before falling asleep, in the car and of course, a few minutes before the interview.
