1. Le Matin Emploi: The workday often feels like a race against the clock. How do you optimize your time?
M.Omar Dahbi: Good time management is absolutely necessary to succeed in a mission, at all levels of production and regardless of the field of activity. But, beyond the elementary principle of optimizing productivity, good time management allows the manager to dedicate themselves to one of their most important roles: the development and improvement of the product. To optimize one's time, there is nothing better than a good task delegation policy. Most often, managers tend to over-concentrate decision-making prerogatives. This causes a bottleneck at their level, which disrupts their schedule and negatively impacts their main role, namely the development of the activity.
2. Why, in your opinion, is time management so important today?
Time management is becoming increasingly important for several reasons, mainly because competition is becoming fierce in all areas and, to "do better", you have to "do it quickly", and to "do it quickly and well", you need the time necessary for this aspect of management.
A manager who concentrates all decisions is led to make dozens a day and, consequently, no longer has time to dedicate to things that are related to the future since they spend their time clogging themselves up with decisions related to the management of current affairs.
3. Based on your experience, how to implement a good time management system, in other words, what tools should be implemented to better manage your time?
As I have already mentioned, it is necessary to implement a good delegation policy, to stimulate the spirit of decision-making among one's collaborators. It is also clear that in the age of communication technologies, it is necessary for any manager to take advantage of them.
Today, it is clear that many decisions can be made remotely and in real time. This makes the task easier for both the manager and the collaborators and allows for better fluidity of management and therefore enormous time savings.
4. Do you ever postpone a task you had promised to do the same day until the next day?
This happens, and it's perfectly normal since priorities change as the day goes on. All the more so since, in a job like mine, "production" is not 100% plannable like in many other sectors. In our profession, priorities change several times during the day. And we are therefore led to postpone things, but only because there is something more urgent to do.
5. Do you have any tips for better managing your time at work?
I delegate everything that can be delegated and I take full advantage of the possibilities offered by new technologies.
6. In your opinion, what are the most urgent tasks? And what are your priorities?
The most urgent tasks are generally those that allow for better production fluidity. And my priorities are those that allow teams to move forward. Because poor priority management can create a bottleneck for the manager and cause delays in the work of the entire chain.
7. Testimonials
N. B, director of a bank branch
"The integration of new tools, including the electronic calendar and the optimization of structures, has made it possible to move from an activity that is most often endured to a more broadly programmed activity. In synergy and in addition to the tools, daily tasks can be structured around a coffee break during the briefing, which is a key moment of 15 minutes maximum, the start of the day, the gathering of information, client appointments (half an hour per client), mid-day team coaching, self-analysis and technical assistance, then the day's debriefing. Time management must therefore combine individual performance, team spirit and the orientation of daily activity management. In this sense, the results can only be positive."
Fatem-Zohra Borkadi, notary
"Good time management is above all good organization within the workplace, which is achieved through task sharing, through delegation of authority, good collaboration and above all good communication to avoid wasting time. As for me, punctuality, keeping a diary and preparing the contract in advance before the appointment with the client are the key words. Similarly, I think that the distribution of work to be done is essential to stay focused. It is not easy to organize your workday to be as efficient as possible, but you must define priorities among the tasks to be performed. By doing so, you don't get overwhelmed. Organization is a very interesting topic to share, because every good idea is a good idea to take."
