Okay, okay, you love your job. Okay, you can't disconnect when evening comes; you finally enjoy the calm of the office to concentrate effortlessly, to move faster, to finish the unfinished, to refine here and there... Okay. Just remember that, faced with multiple stressors, having a fulfilling personal life is also one of the best investments you can make for your work. Hence the importance of leaving on time.
How to leave on time? Here are some key tips:
1/ Set a time and stick to it.
Once you have set a precise time - and you are determined to stick to it - you eliminate the thousand and one mental pollutions, time-consuming and merciless intellectual disturbances. You get to the essentials. You stop unimportant interruptions, procrastination choices and devastating perfectionism. Think about that activity you adored, abandoned a long time ago and which you secretly dream of. There you go, it's finally time to indulge in it again and have immediate non-professional satisfactions.
2/ Refuse multitasking.
Several recent studies have shown that doing several things at the same time makes you less efficient and unnecessarily exhausts the brain. This slows down mental activity, since it is dispersed, scattered, broken up in different directions. In order to gain an hour or two, really focus on a single activity.
3/ Respect your to-do list.
Don't waste your time wondering what you still have to accomplish. Don't worry about the hundred little things you've missed. Choose a single medium (paper diary, computer, mobile phone...) and regularly write down everything you absolutely must keep in mind. Also remember to prioritize these tasks, and check, cross out, as you eliminate an item. Remember to start with the longest, most laborious, most unpleasant tasks.
Respecting your list is once again a way to gain satisfaction and efficiency.
