Succeeding in your first days in a new job

Starting a new role in a different environment, with colleagues you don't yet know, is certainly a challenge. A happy challenge.
Here are some tips for a successful integration.

Be flexible and open
Yes, many questions assail you on the eve of your first day in this new company... You wonder, despite yourself: what should you expect? How to prepare? How to make a good impression?

While it's true that there's no magic bullet, there are nevertheless some attitudes to adopt and others to avoid.
First of all, expect anything, be open, psychologically available, relaxed and as smiling as possible.

You will probably be welcomed by a manager whose mission will be to introduce you to the environment, the team, and will give you a roadmap, or even invite you to participate in a meeting. Dare to ask the questions that worry you politely and diplomatically. This will be perceived as an interest in your environment and not as a sign of misunderstanding or inadequacy.

Regarding preparation, it will be linked to what was requested when you signed your contract. Were you previously told that you had to learn about certain crucial points before D-day? If so, don't hesitate to find out in advance by all possible means. And to ask questions related to your hesitations.

It seems that more and more HR departments realize the importance of integrating new employees, both human and economic, as it is true that successful integration retains employees.

Be observant and courteous
Being natural is good. Being natural while adopting certain appropriate attitudes to better integrate into the new team is even better.

Initially, take some distance and observe. Don't hesitate, if you feel like it, to break the ice with a little humor, while remaining courteous and knowing who you are talking to. The first few days should be used to assess your environment, integrate it, so that you can then master it.
Avoid being too extroverted, it's too early. For now, prefer a smiling and welcoming reserve, which will respect everyone's sensitivities. However, don't hesitate to meet your colleagues, to take an interest in their work, to ask them about their habits and those of the company... It is by understanding the general functioning that you will succeed in finding and asserting your place.

Be respectful and attentive
In every company there is what could be called an internal regulation. It is up to the manager to keep you informed and/or train you, if necessary. Therefore, remain respectful, listening to these guidelines, so as not to establish lines of conduct that would not be beneficial to you later. Maintain a professional attitude, a good distance. Don't demand of yourself to be immediately operational. Allow yourself a few weeks to digest the necessary information.

However, if after two months you haven't managed to define and understand your place, talk to your superior.
