A new low-cost airline called "Air Arabia Maroc" officially launched on Wednesday, April 29, at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca. To mark its official launch in Morocco, the company held an inauguration ceremony attended by government representatives and dignitaries. These included Karim Ghellab, Minister of Equipment and Transport; Mohamed Hassan Bensalah, President of the Holmarcom group and Air Arabia Maroc; Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani, President of Air Arabia; Hind Chkili, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts; the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Morocco; and many other influential figures from the private sector. Air Arabia Maroc, a 370 million dirham investment, will begin operations on May 6 with an inaugural flight to Stansted Airport in London. The company will also operate more than 40 flights to 7 countries, mainly in Europe, Africa, and Asia. On this occasion, Mr. Ghellab expressed his joy and pride at welcoming this new airline and stated that "this action is part of the strategy to remove obstacles or the "Open Sky" policy initiated by Morocco in 2004." He also invited Air Arabia representatives to the signing of the technical operating certificate, confirming the start of operations and guaranteeing the safety of the company's airbuses. This new company, whose CEO is Adel Ali, will offer, according to him, comfortable and reliable air services with excellent value for money. He also explained that Air Arabia Maroc will be a major competitor for foreign companies but will work closely with Royal Air Maroc. Mr. Bensalah stated that he is convinced that, through its wide range of destinations and competitive costs, Air Arabia Maroc will undoubtedly contribute to the development of tourism in Morocco. Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani emphasized that "in just over five years, Air Arabia has established itself as one of the region's greatest success stories, and this day marks an important event in the history of Air Arabia Maroc, which will cover the European, Middle Eastern, and African markets, continuing to strengthen its presence and reputation." He then expressed his thanks to the Kingdom of Morocco, the civil aviation authorities, Casablanca airport, and all the partners who made the inauguration of Air Arabia Maroc possible. The company will begin operations with two new Airbus A320s, offering passengers the best possible configuration in economy class with good legroom.
The Airbus A320 is described as the benchmark in the single-aisle aircraft category. Each aircraft is equipped with an instrument flight system with the same cockpit and controls across all models in the range. Air Arabia Maroc, a member of the Air Arabia group, is a joint venture between the Air Arabia group, Regional Air Lines (a subsidiary of the Holmarcom group), and Ithmaar Bank. It has 51% Moroccan ownership and 49% divided between the UAE and Bahrain.
