How to improve the image your employees have of you while staying yourself? How to have a good image with Generation Y and fifty-year-olds at the same time?
Here are seven tips to increase your rating with your employees.
1. Be at the service of your team.
Contrary to what people think, the best way to increase your rating is not to play the boss but rather to be seen as the charismatic leader who leads with justice and understanding his team but who is, above all, at its service. At the service of its well-being, through dialogue and the ability to motivate its troops.
2. Have a smart look.
You have chosen to have a casual look, without constraints, that's good. However, consider varying it sometimes. To give a broader image than that of the manager of Generation Y. Being adaptable, of all eras, is knowing how to be distinguished, elegant, while being relaxed and accessible.
3. Be smiling
Know how to smile, do not walk the corridors, looking gloomy and sullen. Remember to say "hello" to everyone, whether it is an intern or a charismatic director and, why not, to remind you that you know their names and files…
4. Have humor.
Yes, you too, have the right to be light, funny, to take small "smile breaks", during which you tell an anecdote or a joke… This time is, rest assured, time saved, since it is minutes that you dedicate to your team, touched that you offered them, despite your job of tight time, a little time.
5. Be and remain the leader.
Leader, it is to lead, it is to be at the head and, sometimes, to be the head… It is to be able to lead meetings without hesitation, to speak in front of a large number of spectators and interlocutors, it is to know how to encourage the biggest bosses to come visit your factory, to arbitrate in case of conflicts, with justice, moderation and elegance, it is to know how to make complex decisions… It is to accept to be, sometimes, a little isolated and/or unpopular.
6. Bring enthusiasm and motivation.
You have your vision of the work to be accomplished, of the direction and the objective to be achieved and you know how to transmit this with enthusiasm, joy and confidence. Your decided and affirmed serenity carries others, at all levels of the hierarchy…
7. Know how to congratulate.
Never are you stingy with compliments, encouragement, the right word, the one that makes you want to fight and not give up. You congratulate without hesitation a colleague who has achieved his objectives but also the other who dared to put in place an intelligent initiative, which, however, did not bear the expected fruits. Friendly and empathetic, you are appreciated for your intellect but also for your human qualities.
