Stress. Many of us suffer from it. It's not surprising when you think about everything most of us have to do in 24 hours: work, housework, children, friends and a partner. But maybe that's where the problem lies: we simply need to dedicate less time to these things and learn to say "no" more often. But how?
Causes of stress
The causes of stress vary from person to person. Some get nervous when they think about all the work waiting for them on Monday at the office, while others are reassured by having prepared a clear and precise list of tasks to be done. Whatever the case, the main stress factors are generally the following:
burnout: too much work (at home or in the office), overly complicated tasks, lack of rest;
boreout: boredom, lack of responsibility;
loss: death, job loss, separation;
loss of control: sudden illness, unruly children.
Consequences of stress
To stop being stressed, you naturally need to remove the cause. Otherwise, you will suffer from this "bad" stress for too long and will not be able to escape its many consequences. Some are psychological in nature:
anxiety;
depression;
concentration problems;
apathy.
Stress also often leads to physical problems:
neck and shoulder pain;
headaches;
fatigue;
decreased appetite;
insomnia;
high blood pressure.
Are you suffering from any of these symptoms? Do you think stress is the cause? If so, talk to your doctor.
Solutions to stress
The most obvious solution to reduce stress is naturally to remove the cause. Unfortunately, this option is not always feasible: it's impossible to quit your job overnight. Fortunately, there are many other ways to make everyday stress more bearable:
Take a short walk alone at lunchtime. Take time for yourself and relax before starting the second half of the day.
Keep time for yourself. Literally schedule time for yourself in your diary, because if you systematically put everyone and everything before yourself, your turn will never come. In short: even if you only plan to drink a cup of coffee and read the newspaper, write it in your schedule.
Exercise helps you relax (muscles). People who exercise generally manage stress better.
Every evening, make a list of 5 positive things that happened during the day: a hug from your child, a compliment from your boss or a kind word from the bookseller. These positive emotions will help you fall asleep more easily.
Ask for help. Superman/Superwoman doesn't exist: there is absolutely no shame in asking a colleague for help on a project, or paying someone to do your ironing.
