Text: Can you tell us a little about yourself? Why do you want to work for us? What motivates you? What is your biggest weakness? Where will you be in five years? In short, tell us a little about yourself…
Here are five of the most frequently asked questions by recruiters, so you might as well prepare to answer them!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Although this question seems broad and you could tell almost anything, the best way to answer it is to use it to highlight your strengths that are most compatible with the position you are aiming for. If it is a customer-related job, for example, say that you are a sociable person, that you enjoy interacting with people. If it's in aeronautics, mention how you progressed during your last position in this sector, which confirmed your passion for this field.
What motivates you?
The real question is often: "Are you an engine or a trailer?" It goes without saying that the ideal employee is able to motivate themselves. Respond with a concrete example illustrating that you are a team player able to contribute to achieving the company's objectives, or even to motivate your colleagues.
What is your biggest weakness?
We don't want to know so much what your weaknesses are, but rather how you overcome them. This is the time to use an anecdote illustrating how you were able to learn from your past experiences… which will be beneficial to your future employer.
Where will you be in five years?
The question here is whether the company's objectives are compatible with yours, or even if you have any, so this is not the time to build your plans on the spot. Think about it well before the interview. Then, once the time comes, take the opportunity to show the employer that you have thought carefully about your future and that it is an integral part of your strategy to achieve your goals.
Why do you think you are the best person for this position?
This is THE big question. Never forget that you are often competing with other candidates who want this position. Your task here is therefore to demonstrate how you are better placed than all these people. This is the time to share what you have learned about the company culture, what you like about its mission and what contribution you can make.
