There's no age limit for flirting at the office.
Everyone does it... some more than others! It's clear that flirting at the office - within reason - improves your work and makes your life easier. Your colleague will also appreciate the interest you show them.
What is flirting at work, and how to do it?
Let's start at the beginning: be friendly, natural and smile. Give the impression of a happy and confident person. Nobody flirts with a depressed person! Flirting should be neither intimidating nor ridiculous. When practiced at its best, it above all values your partners. Show them that you are making an effort to be friendly and that they occupy a special place in your daily professional life.
Don't overdo the praise
Compliments can be dangerous, especially if they are not sincere. Otherwise, they will bring joy to the person concerned, who will then deploy the best will in the world in their work. There is only one step to take to go from compliment to flirt: if someone has done a good job for you, tell them, and your next collaborations will only be better. Or you can more easily ask them for a service when the time comes.
Don't overdo it either
No need to overact. Flirting can be very subtle, like a sign of attention, but always sincere. It's up to you to find the right balance. You can flirt through compliments, but also by encouraging your colleagues' ideas, or by supporting them when you think they are right. Some people are transcended by compliments and flattery: don't be stingy with it! But always with authenticity. These people sometimes just need simple support. Don't forget: you have nothing to lose by flirting - reasonably - at work.
Be available if you are approached
And if the desire to flirt doesn't come from you? Return the ball to your partners! They have special attentions for you, and will feel hurt if you ignore them. You may have to laugh at their not-so-funny jokes or congratulate them on their initiatives, but in any case, you will accomplish your work more easily if your colleagues appreciate you and feel valued in your eyes, without having to make a big show of it.
The limits?
Don't get too close or familiar: it's important to maintain a certain reserve in a professional context. Flirt lightly but assiduously. A simple smile is enough in many cases. If your colleagues remain allergic to flirting, don't insist. You are not there to force their hand, but simply to try to make your work life more pleasant and easier to manage.
Give without expecting anything in return
It's not enough to play a role. You would quickly be unmasked. That's why I recommend that you practice "controlled flirting", with total sincerity. Your partners will be more than willing to collaborate with you, without suspecting you of playing a double game. Don't flirt excessively either: you would quickly exhaust yourself and would no longer be able to give to others without interruption. Sharing and paying attention to others requires energy!
In conclusion, flirting at work is certainly a subtle technique, but nevertheless very powerful. Unless flirting is innate in you, you will have to practice to find the approach that suits you best and reconcile this know-how with your being among your colleagues.
