The mega-project “Tunisia Economic City” will consist of a large international economic, tourist, social, and cultural city located in Enfidha (Central-East Tunisia). The project was officially launched on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, during a press conference.
The idea of this grand project is to create a “smart city” that will stand as an economic and tourist gateway to the Mediterranean and a point of junction between East and West and between South and North.
According to its promoters, the project will create a total of 250,000 jobs over the first 10 years.
Here is the project in video:
The founding president of this project, Riadh Khalifa Toukabri, declared to journalists that "this project will allow Tunisia, in particular, and the entire Mediterranean region to have a new modern economic identity and a universal dimension."
And he added, "we have worked, in coordination with our partners, to attract renowned groups in the fields of hospitality, leisure, medicine, media, and other activities that can make this project a unique international hub."
For his part, the Saudi Deputy Crown Prince, Fahd Ben Mogren, co-founder of the project, stated that “Tunisia Economic City” will contribute to the development of the entire Tunisian economic system, give the country a geo-economic dimension, and establish it as a gateway to the Mediterranean and as an international free trade zone.
