Tunisia: Positive Development in Technical Cooperation

A significant improvement has been recorded in the technical cooperation balance sheet during the first ten months, according to the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT). The ATCT reports having recruited 2824 new Tunisian cooperators, including 100 first-time job seekers, a 18.7% increase compared to the same period in 2012 (2379 cooperators).

Education and teaching rank first with 1814 recruits, representing 64% of placements. Health follows with 356 recruits, then engineering with 216 recruits. Gulf countries are the main recruiters of Tunisian skills.
They accounted for 2185 recruits, or 77.37% of total recruitments.

The Sultanate of Oman holds the top position with 1018 executives (36%), followed by Saudi Arabia with 614 recruits, Qatar with 283 recruits, and the United Arab Emirates with 202 recruits. Furthermore, the agency has expanded into new markets such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Canada (166 recruits).

It is noted that 56 recruitment commissions traveled to Tunisia to interview Tunisian candidates and assess available human resources. In addition, the agency received 155 job offers.

The ATCT organized a medical English training session in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, for 154 paramedical professionals recruited by health institutions in Qatar. This aimed to strengthen the beneficiaries' English language skills and increase their chances of passing the "PROMETRIC" test before starting their work in Qatar.

Regarding bilateral and triangular cooperation, the ATCT deployed 28 Tunisian experts for technical assistance missions. 25 experts conducted campaigns to combat blindness in Burkina Faso, Libya, and Cameroon, and three experts worked in the field of quality.

The agency also organized 15 training sessions in Tunisia for 175 executives from 33 African and Arab countries on various training topics, including research on infectious diseases, taxation, tourism, French language, and the publishing, distribution, and production of school books. This was in collaboration with international cooperation organizations and Tunisian public and private training centers. Thus, by October 31, 2013, the total number of Tunisians working abroad reached 14,527 Tunisian cooperators and experts.
