The Minister of Vocational Training and Employment, Zied Laadhri, announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with the French foundation FACE to promote gender equality in the workplace.
"This is an agreement to exchange information with the organization and to provide it with all information on vocational training and employment centers," said the Minister of Employment, Zied Laadhri.
The goal is to improve the integration of women, especially those working in rural areas, by giving them an "equal" chance to men to find employment.
This agreement is part of an overall project initiated in Tunisia by FACE (Fondation Agir Contre l'Exclusion) which prevents and combats all forms of discrimination. Concretely, the mission of this French organization in Tunisia is to achieve four objectives:
Supporting 50 young women who have completed their studies in their job search. 100 young girls still in school will receive an introduction to the business world.
Commitment from 100 companies to improve their policies in favor of gender equality
Development of training for Tunisian associations in favor of gender equality
Commitment of public authorities against gender-based professional discrimination
According to a study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 60% of Tunisian women have completed secondary or higher education. But their employment rate does not exceed 20%.
In contrast, 70% of men who have completed secondary or higher education have an employment rate exceeding 60%.
