Unsolicited applications are a way to reach the hidden job market. After networking, it is the best way to find a position.
The main advantage of sending unsolicited applications lies in the low competition compared to responses to advertisements.
If a position is to be filled, the company will prefer to meet you rather than place an advertisement if you have the required profile.
Your letter must be convincing and make them want to meet you.
Whether it is an unsolicited application or a response to an advertisement, the cover letter is not simply a letter accompanying the CV. It corresponds to your project and you choose the interesting elements that you wish to highlight.
Who should you send your unsolicited applications to?
An unsolicited application includes a CV and a cover letter.
This application should be addressed to a person who will be a decision-maker for future recruitment. This is therefore not always the Human Resources Director but rather an operational manager.
The unsolicited application should be followed up by a phone call within 8 days of sending it. This is to see if it has caught the attention of your target contact and if a meeting is possible.
The recruiter's 4 questions
In the case of an unsolicited application, the letter must also answer four questions that the recruiter asks:
1. Why is this candidate writing to my company? What interests them about it?
2. What are they looking for?
3. What can they bring me?
4. What makes them different from others?
