After several weeks of recruitment interviews, you have just hired the person you have been looking for for a while! So, you are about to welcome your new recruit into your company and now count on their efficiency. As the department manager, you must quickly anticipate their arrival and best prepare their integration!
To ensure your new recruit integrates quickly into the company, you must give them the greatest attention because successful integration is key to success in the position. It is therefore necessary to dedicate time to your new employee, and help them situate themselves in their professional environment and invest in and for the company.
Prepare their office
First step, even before your new employee arrives, set up the necessary material resources: telephone line, workstation, desk, computer, internet connection... This step seems trivial, but sometimes everything is not ready on the day, which creates a bad impression on the new recruit and constitutes a waste of time for the company.
Announce their arrival
Properly integrating a new employee means announcing their arrival within the company. Before the day, make sure they are listed on the company's intranet site. Inform the team of their arrival, their position and their function, so that the team is not surprised and caught off guard!
Take time to welcome them
As a manager or hierarchical superior, block a time slot or even a lunch to build a relationship with the new employee. It is important that they feel confident from their arrival because the first contact is crucial; it initiates the relationship between the employee and their work environment.
Clearly define their position
You must explain to the newly hired person their function, their mission, their role in the company and in relation to their new colleagues. Finally, you must also set short-term and medium-term objectives for them while they settle in: they must feel like a fish in water!
Introduce them to their colleagues
To begin, on the first day, only introduce them to the team with whom they will have to work. Then, during the first week, have them tour the departments. This way, they will get to know all their new colleagues gradually, a more secure and confident way for them because they have time to settle in and place each new acquaintance in their department. This will facilitate exchanges later on.
Give them time
Allow your new employee and the entire team time to settle in and get to know each other. The new recruit is certainly new, but your colleagues are also facing an unknown person with whom they must communicate and work daily.
Your "newbie" must now prove themselves by taking ownership of their mission. To do this, do not hesitate to show them that you and the entire team are available for them, to answer their questions and to support them in their first steps within the company.
