The job interview is so important in the job search process that it is imperative to be in the right conditions before, during and after the appointment. Here are some tips to make the most of it.
What should I do before the interview?
- Prepare for the interview. Take stock of your qualities, in line with the position offered. You must also know the company as a whole (activity, history, etc.). It is possible that the employer will present the company to you during the interview, in which case, show that you know the company, without overdoing it.
- Arrive with a few questions to ask.
- Learn to introduce yourself in two or three minutes. Practice with a person or in front of a mirror.
- Take care of your look.
- Find the route and calculate the time. This will avoid bad surprises on D-Day.
- Arrive early to be calm and relaxed.
- Observe the place and the people in the waiting area. This allows you to have information and a first impression of the company.
What should I do during the interview?
- Greet your interviewer with a firm handshake (without breaking their hand), look them in the face.
- Have a professional attitude. Stand straight, sit back in your chair and smile (when necessary!).
- Don't read your resume. You must know it by heart.
- Highlight yourself, without overdoing it.
- Be "real" and sincere. Banish the superficial.
- Be open during the interview and offer alternatives when there is a "blockage".
- Take the time to answer the questions.
- Avoid interrupting. It is your employer who leads the interview, not you.
- Ask questions when your interviewer asks you to.
- Ask for details about your future position (type of contract, salary).
- Avoid negative terms "sorry", "I don't have", etc.
What are the frequent questions asked during an interview?
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why did you apply to us?
- Why do you think you are suitable for this position? What do you have more than another person?
- Why did you choose this training?
- What are your qualities, your defects? This question is formidable. Give three qualities and three defects in a strictly professional framework. Regarding defects, be clever. Take qualities and transform them into defects.
- What experience has marked you the most?
- Do you have anything else to add?
What should I do after the interview?
- Once home, send a thank-you message to the employer and reiterate your interest in the position.
- Try to follow up on your application. In some cases, hiring can take some time.
- Make follow-ups, it shows your motivation.
