How to get along with your boss?

What should you do to improve your relationship with your superior(s)?
What are the real advantages of maintaining healthy relationships with your boss?

First of all, let's quickly remind ourselves that a harmonious and fulfilling work relationship undeniably leads to
• a reduction in stress levels,
• an increase in self-confidence
• greater respect for colleagues
• an increase in your personal satisfaction
• (therefore) an increase in your chances of promotion.

These seem to be five good reasons to try to manage your relationship with your boss positively.

Create a positive interaction.
While this is not about becoming your boss's best friend in the world, spending your weekends together and sharing your respective worries, it is, on the other hand, about establishing a real exchange between you: dialogue, information, understanding.

Understand him/her.
Ask yourself questions that will help you better understand the superior you work with daily:
• What qualities make him/her the boss?
• How did he/she get to this position?
• What are his/her professional goals?
• Is he/she under pressure?
• What does he/she appreciate?
• What does he/she disapprove of?
Having a greater understanding of the internal workings, mental processes and deep motivations of the other increases our sympathy towards him/her and therefore greatly contributes to improving relationships.

Adapt.
Without being someone else, without changing anything about who you are intrinsically, know how to adapt and embrace the colors of your company, discover your boss's idea of the ideal employee and meet that model.
Start by asking yourself a few questions:
• Do you possess the qualities and skills valued by the company?
• Do you want to acquire them? (If so, look for training that will give you the necessary resources)

Be the change you want to see.
Once you have identified the problems that hinder harmony, begin the change process, which will consist of understanding, helping, intervening, making a good impression. A boss satisfied with the work of his employees will devote more energy to their needs.

Act instead of reacting.
Avoid being emotional and reactive. Try to control your automatisms: before reacting, evaluate the situation and how you would like to act. It may not be good to act as you have done in the past, especially if it has not had the desired effects.
