Today, every executive must control and optimize their online image.
Your image capital remains important throughout your career. Therefore, control what is said about you on the internet, manage the information, and complete it... To do this, type your first and last name in quotes on Google. In the best-case scenario, you will be surprised by the abundance of information about you; in the worst, by its desperate absence...
Do you have a lot of information?
Good, but delete old information, such as that old CV you uploaded 10 years ago that is now obsolete... Delete aggressive comments from your blog that devalue your image or comments that are clearly false; or better yet, systematically respond to them.
Don't have any information?
Careful, you don't exist for some recruiters... I have heard from some of my colleagues who systematically check the internet when they receive a CV for a senior executive recruitment...
If you are looking for a job in communication or claim to be an internet pro, your absence seems suspicious...
Create your blog, write in a measured and positive way, use the reader section of some newspapers, write articles, give talks, participate in panel discussions and host small breakfasts, making it known on the internet, react on forums, chats, websites, blogs, in short, exist... by taking the initiative of your "netuelle" image.
Generally speaking, prioritize professional information.
Avoid personal blogs, vacation photos, your comments on the latest movie you saw. Avoid political comments, comments on social or economic activity; indeed, be wary of people with partisan attitudes who take little distance and judge only according to their context: naturally, anything contrary to their ideas is condemnable... Become the specialist in your field in the "blogosphere," visit blogs in your environment, react, develop one or more networks. Belong to different communities that function well, such as VIADUC, which allows you to connect with clients, suppliers, and maybe your future employer...
This network, like others (open BC, 6nergies...), works according to the old principle "the friends of my friends are my friends." So become the friend who comments, who asks questions, who answers, who takes care of their writing, who is respectful of everyone and everything. Under these conditions, and without necessarily denying your convictions and your deep self (sic), you will better manage your image and better manage a very small part of the relationship with your potential employers, if your career concerns you. Because you can also take the opposite approach to this article and write online whatever comes to mind, what you feel authentically. But know that you are taking risks by exposing yourself. And for that, you have to be strong, very strong...
