With organizational changes and a constantly changing business climate, managers see their work and morale fluctuate. To measure the morale of Moroccan managers, we have implemented a barometer with relevant indicators. The survey was conducted with 2867 profiles of Bac+4, Bac+5 and more in Morocco, it highlighted the following major trends:

1- Managers, between indifference and a sense of belonging

The observation is alarming. Opinions are divided, but remain worrying because the indifference and rejection felt by managers should not be neglected.
The majority of respondents feel indifference towards their current company (38% versus 24% of managers), and 12% even feel rejection. Note that a demotivated and unhappy employee is less productive and not as involved as their colleagues.
36% have a strong sense of belonging (versus 48% of managers), and 14% are proud to belong to their current organization, which is still positive given the situation. Some managers are in a good position after all.

Who are the managers who have a feeling of pride and belonging?
• #1 Seniors: 53%
• #2 Beginners and juniors: 50%
• #3 Managers with 4 to 6 years of experience: 49%

• #1 Managers with 8 to 10 years of experience: 56%

2- Managers are discouraged and exhausted

25% of respondents find that their professional life is currently discouraging, and 19% find it exhausting. Only 18% find it pleasant, and 10% stimulating. This end of the year has therefore been difficult for managers.

Who are the managers who have a stimulating and enjoyable professional life?
• #1 Beginners and juniors: 33%
• #2 Managers with 2 to 4 years of experience: 30%
• #3 Seniors: 27%

3- 60% of Moroccan managers are demotivated

The main causes of this demotivation are: the lack of career progression, insufficient remuneration and lack of professional recognition.
Indeed, 65% of demotivated managers are mainly so because of a lack of career progression. If the work environment does not evolve and does not allow them to advance, their motivation level decreases and then plays against the organization. This demotivation causes the company to have turnover costs and a loss of skills from talented employees.
In 2nd position of the demotivation factors comes insufficient remuneration (62%). We know that salary represents the main lever of motivation for managers (see detailed survey results), so it is necessary to ensure that managers are remunerated at their fair value to avoid a decrease in performance.
Beyond the impact on motivation, the lack of professional recognition (suffered by 54% of managers) can also impact the mental health of managers and lead to real disengagement.

4- Managers are happier than executives

49% of managers feel stress or moral fatigue, compared to 45% of managers (survey "Manager morale in May 2017)
16% say that their work gives them happiness and pleasure, compared to 27% of managers

5- Managers are optimistic

Despite their demotivation, managers remain optimistic about their future with their current employer. Indeed, 44% of respondents are rather optimistic, and 8% are even very optimistic. 13% are very pessimistic and 35% are rather pessimistic.
