Whether for an internship, a job, or training, you can request a qualified reference when you finish your contract with your employer.
This type of document is useful to illustrate your professional experience. But for a quality reference, it is better to be wary of the details! Here are the points to consider when you receive your letter of recommendation.
Content
•Does the letter present your work in a precise and complete way?
•Does your employer correctly evaluate your performance?
•Are your achievements and the specific skills you demonstrated during your employment period mentioned and sufficiently recognized?
•Does your employer express regret at seeing you leave?
Formulation
•Does the letter contain negative statements? It should not contain any clearly negative evaluations.
•In the description of your activities, is the emphasis on insignificant tasks? Are complex and specific tasks highlighted?
•Which of your qualities is particularly emphasized and cited positively? If, for example, you are praised for your punctuality, it may mean that your employer has not noticed anything positive in your work beyond that.
Formalities
•What overall impression does the letter give?
•Is the recommendation very long or conspicuously short?
•Is your personal information correct (first name, last name, date of birth, etc.)?
•Are the start and end dates mentioned?
•Is the letter dated?
