When we ask recruiters: What do you think of applying by email? We too often get the following answers: Too much information, poor presentation, untargeted sending and above all, neglected application.
In short, applying by email is a good idea, especially in this age of time, given the advancement of technology; however, it can be a deal breaker for you if the content and form are not up to par.
ReKrute.com presents a list of important points to consider in order to make your application a success.
A professional email address:
We often, and unfortunately, see candidates sending their CV via ludicrous and absolutely unprofessional email addresses. Therefore, addresses such as superstar@gmail.com are to be avoided. Opt for an address that includes your name, because in addition to being professional, it allows the recruiter to more easily find your application. Another point, don't forget to check your email regularly, even every day.
Carefully consider your email subject:
Avoid emails with the subject line "application", because they receive tons of emails like that. Opt instead for a catchy title, include the position you would like to have, for example.
Refine your email body:
Although email is often more informal than a letter, this does not mean that it should not be just as carefully and meticulously written. Proofread your text carefully, absolutely avoid spelling mistakes and above all avoid the abbreviations that we tend to use too much. Opt for professional language; it is even advisable to include your cover letter in the body of the email.
Carefully select your recipient:
Make sure that the address to which you are sending your CV is the one in the job offer.
For unsolicited applications, it is important to find out the name of the person concerned, either on the company's website or by calling directly. It is preferable to avoid sending to general addresses such as contact@....com, as CVs sometimes end up in the trash.
Once this is done, don't hesitate to follow up with the company a few days later to inquire about the status of your application, because often, unfortunately, companies don't bother to respond.
Therefore, remember that it is essential to refine the content and form of your email to maximize your chances of being contacted.
