Recruitment websites have become essential tools in the job search. But with the multitude of job boards, it is not always easy to find your way around. How to make the right choices? How to become a pro at online job searching? Advice from Corinne Zerbib, founder of the Jobetic.net website.
There are a plethora of recruitment websites on the Internet. How should a candidate sort through them?
"There are currently about a hundred recruitment websites, which requires a candidate to do some upfront analysis to make a selection and get the most out of these tools. Searching for job offers on recruitment websites without prior planning is counterproductive.
A candidate must define their selection criteria based on their own professional project, whether they are unemployed or an employee looking for a new position. Which sectors? Which geographical areas? Which positions? Which companies? Based on these elements, the candidate selects two or three general recruitment websites and two or three specialized websites; this is largely sufficient. In the list of general websites, the APEC website is essential for executives and the ANPE website for non-executives."
What criteria should be considered to ensure the seriousness of a recruitment website?
"The main expectation of candidates is to have access to serious and up-to-date job postings. The Association of Professionals for the Promotion of Employment on the Internet (APPEI) has established a code of ethics to guarantee candidates reliable online job search tools. Recruitment websites adhering to this charter undertake to only post valid and regularly updated job postings and to respect confidentiality in the management of applications. In partnership with the Halde (High Authority for the Fight against Discrimination and for Equality), members of the APPEI charter also commit to fighting against discrimination in hiring. Job boards that respect these ethical rules offer guarantees of seriousness to users."
Recruitment websites provide candidates with many tools (email alerts, CV databases, RSS feeds). How to best use these online services?
"Searching for a job online requires a lot of work. The recruitment website is a tool that serves the strategy defined by the candidate. You should not blindly rely on the services offered and the technology. Email alerts do save time by receiving job postings directly in your inbox thanks to predefined selection criteria, but they are not 100% reliable. The candidate must do their own daily monitoring of online job postings in order not to miss any opportunity. You must also fill out online forms correctly for each application.
Regarding CV databases, it is essential to test them. For example, an IT candidate who leaves their CV in the CV database of a recruitment website and does not get a response from recruiters can question the effectiveness of this service, given the high demand for IT professionals in the job market. You must therefore test all the services offered, observe the results obtained and adapt your strategy gradually. Knowing how to conduct a job search on the Internet is now an essential skill for any job seeker. It is best to adopt the right reflexes from the start!"
