Working from home, that old childhood fantasy you've held onto... Yes, working from home, as you want, when you want, being free to manage your hours, your space and your tasks, it's fantastic! It is fantastic, yes. Except you shouldn't overdo it. Nor let yourself be! Otherwise, you risk being inefficient or slowly but surely harming your family life.
Don't procrastinate!
Two risks are to be eliminated: that of dragging things out, postponing everything and being drawn into a spiral of permanent lateness and/or that of doing too much, working continuously, forgetting your private life and the rhythm of your family life.
So be moderate and set clear, precise time limits for yourself. Define the outlines of a kind of timetable for the days and hours worked, as well as the breaks and spaces you allow yourself (for your errands, your family and your private life). It's up to you to know your peak efficiency hours and to efficiently manage your schedule, to build and install your "positive routine".
Also, and absolutely, remember to set a finishing time, the time after which you stop everything, as if you were leaving your office.
Organize your space!
Get into habits! Yes, dare to tame a specific workspace in your home, a place that will become your "little personal office". Delimit "pro zones" in order to preserve what is not as a leisure zone. This has two advantages: that of physically framing you during your professional time and that of not invading your private mental space (family space, too). Without respecting this spatial limit, you might find yourself working all the time, everywhere, even if only mentally. And that's how you'd find yourself dwelling on your article or imagining the product you're going to launch instead of enjoying that beautiful moment, at the table, with your children and your spouse.
Set yourself tasks!
Set yourself specific tasks to accomplish before returning to your personal life. Finish, for example, this article, before going to do your shopping. Have finished this file before the time to pick up your children from school.
It is important to limit the number of your daily tasks. And to know precisely below which bar and above which you cannot go without entering into lateness or overload. This will allow you to maintain a saving balance for everyone and everything.
